The legend
Amarok is a figure from Inuit mythology. Commonly described as a giant wolf, he is the Wolf Spirit. Amarok is known for hunting down unwary hunters who go out alone at night; but he is also known as a guardian of nature, keeping things in balance. Indeed, legend has it that he hunts down weak and sick animals to keep the herds healthy for hunting, especially the Caribou herds. As such, the Inuit have dubbed him the caribou doctor.
